Although the mobile commerce market is still growing, analysts, the financial community and consumers are all excited by this emerging payment channel. Key to the industry’s long term success is cross industry cooperation to establish consistency in payment solutions and consensus on technology standards.
The Mobile Payment Forum was launched in November 2001 when American Express, JCB Co., Ltd., MasterCard International and Visa International, joined forces to invite Financial institutions, telecommunication operators, handset manufacturers and vendors to collaborate in the development of an interoperable global m-payment market.
Today, the combined experience and expertise of these key industry players allows the Forum to address the critical issues for mobile payments, develop trusted relationships, identify requirements and build a framework that will make global, interoperable mobile payments a viable reality.
