Mobile Payment Configuration and Maintenance Working Group
The goal of the Mobile Payment Configuration and Maintenance Working Group is to facilitate the formation of interoperable mechanisms for configuring and maintaining a mobile device (and associated systems) to enable it as a payment instrument.
The group works to assist in the creation of an environment in which mobile devices and associated servers and network elements may securely and consistently be configured for payment. The ongoing lifecycle, such as updating and deleting, of payment related objects, including applications and data, will also be considered by the group. The group will consider activities related to the configuration and maintenance of a mobile device as a payment instrument. This includes both the mobile device itself, and any systems associated with the mobile device that enable a transaction from a mobile device.
Current and past activities include:
- Proximity Payment Activity (PPA):
the PPA is developing standardized components that are necessary to support
payments using the mobile handset to complete a transaction with a merchant
at a physical point-of-sale location at either unattended or attended
points of sale.
- Personalization of multi-application
clients – this activity addresses the protocols and formats for
download, security-related issues such as authentication and integrity of
data, and maintenance of personalized data and applications.
