Mobile Payment Authentication Working Group
The goal of the Mobile Payment Authentication Working Group is to define mechanisms and guidelines for authentication services for mobile payments. The group will focus on interoperable mechanisms in order to enable wider and more standardized access to authentication applications. It will also define security guidelines or requirements to make sure that the authentication process meets the requirements of a payment environment. The authentication applications may or may not require a client in the phone or the SIM card.
The group will consider activities related to the authentication of an end-user to a service provider, and also of the service provider to the end-user, through the end-user's mobile device as a payment instrument.
Current and past activities include:
- Two-way messaging authentication - this activity defines security best practices and a standard open interface that can be used by financial institutions to deploy authentication services using two way text messaging capable mobile handsets.
